Bajaj Auto is in the process of forming a separate wholly-owned subsidiary for its electric vehicles business. Bajaj Auto intends to invest a total of Rs 100 crore for the new entity. These new electric and hybrid vehicles will cater to the 2-wheeler, 3-wheeler, and 4-wheeler categories, says Bajaj. The brand already has the Chetak in the electric scooter segment."The wholly-owned subsidiary will leverage the growth opportunities in the evolving mobility space and will help the company venture into the manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicles in the two, three, and four-wheelers category," said the company in a statement. The electric two-wheeler segment in India has witnessed a massive spark in recent times with several mainstream players jumping into the electric bandwagon. With Hero Motocorp announcing a partnership with Taiwan's Gogoro to launch electric scooters and battery-swapping network, TVS Motor's announcement of a new subsidy through which it will be developing and selling electric vehicles, and Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and Revolt gaining traction in the Indian market, it will be interesting to see how Bajaj will fare in the electric mobility scenario. As per the reports, the new subsidiary could take over the production of electric KTMs and Husqvarnas,  and high-end motorcycles under the KTM and Triumph brands at the company’s new manufacturing plant that is being constructed at Chakan, Pune. Does it mean an electric Pulsar in the future? Well, it won't be wrong to assume!
